Dating to 1913 and long known as Jagdish Das & Company, JDS is often called the oldest Banarasi saree store in the city. Its multi-storey showroom at Rathyatra Crossing sells sarees the firm makes and supplies itself, and it also supplies retailers across India. Selected pieces carry Silk Mark certification.

The Banarasi saree is woven in and around Varanasi in Uttar Pradesh, one of the oldest brocade centres in India.
Tanchoi is a silk brocade technique associated with Varanasi and Surat, in which the design is woven in several coloured silk wefts rather than in zari.
