A bridal silk landmark on MG Road, run as Deepam Silk Retail, which has traded in silk sarees for about four decades. It is known for a very large Kanjivaram range, reported at around 10,000 designs, across many price points. Visiting NRI families often shop here for wedding trousseaus alongside the other MG Road houses.

Kanchipuram, the temple town about 75 km south-west of Chennai, is the best-known silk weaving centre in Tamil Nadu, and its sarees are widely regarded as the classic south Indian bridal silk.
Mysore silk is the pure silk saree woven by the Karnataka Silk Industries Corporation (KSIC) at its factory in Mysuru, which was founded in 1912 by the Maharaja Krishnaraja Wadiyar IV after he imported looms from Switzerland.
The Banarasi saree is woven in and around Varanasi in Uttar Pradesh, one of the oldest brocade centres in India.
