Known for

Jamdani silk

Jamdani is a technique of discontinuous supplementary weft in which each motif is woven into the fabric by hand, using small spools or sticks of thread that the weaver passes through the warp only where the design requires.

Bandhani silk

Bandhani is the tie-and-dye craft of Gujarat and Rajasthan, in which tiny points of cloth are pinched and bound tightly with thread before dyeing so that they resist the colour.

Banarasi silk

The Banarasi saree is woven in and around Varanasi in Uttar Pradesh, one of the oldest brocade centres in India.
